Durham Castle Wedding – Sophie & Joe

Durham Castle Wedding Photographer FEATURED

Sophie & Joe

“Could not recommend Ray enough, he really made us feel relaxed from start to finish and captured some fantastic photos! He adapted to exactly what we wanted and recommended some great shots, giving us plenty of photos we really will treasure forever. If you had any doubt whether to use Ray for your wedding, from one bride to another, he really is great no matter what you are looking for in a photographer… and you can be sure to get some really unique photos!”

How did you both meet?

We met at school, and to be honest we couldn’t have been more different. I, (Sophie), was head girl, loved netball and generally loved everything about school. Joe however had quite a bit of a different reputation, he wore a berghause wait…… it gets worse rockports too not just black tanned rockports. He was often kicked out of class for being mischievous, on one occasion set off a smoke bomb in science forcing the whole building to be evacuated. There wasn’t a teacher who didn’t know his name. Joe had one thing he loved and that was his love for football, once upon a time even played for Sunderland academy. By strange stroke of luck Joe took a liking to me (or he tells me now he took a likely to a particular pair of trousers I wore to school)… and he asked his friend to ask me out. Quite bewildered I said yes despite never speaking before. The rest is history, 11 years later we are now married…

Why did you chose your venue over all the others?

When we started to discuss venues we found so many great ones however after a short while we knew we wanted to get married in Durham as it was a place we both grew up in and a place we both called home. Sadly, my grandma passed away shortly after we got engaged in 2018 so we decided to get married in the same church she and my grandpa got married in, which also happened to be the same church Joes grandparents got married in so it held real sentimental value for us. We then went in search for a venue that was close enough to the church and there really was only one venue that stood out to us and that was Durham Castle… it is such a beautiful venue fit for any princess.

Why did you select Ray as your Durham Castle wedding photographer?

Ray was great, he made everything feel relaxed and really adapted to what you wanted. He is imaginative and creative with his shots, so whatever you are wanting in a photographer he can provide. I would highly recommend Ray for your big day, he did a fantastic job.

What was the highlight of your day?

Highlight for me (Sophie) was two things, the first was reaching the alter after walking down the aisle and meeting Joes eyes for the first time, there was something special about that feeling that I can’t describe. The second was the speeches, all were absolutely fantastic, but a particular highlight for me was the maid of honours speech who blew me away . My (Joe) highlight has to be taking Sophies hand for the first time at the church, looking at each other and saying my vows. It was a truly spine tingling moment that I will never forget. The speeches were also great and the best man, is the first person to ever embarrass me! So hats off to him!

Advice for other brides and grooms?

My advice would be to enjoy every minute of the day because it flies over, remember to take time out with your new husband to cherish some time together. We only had ourselves on the top table which was great, really gave us some alone time to let sink in that we were now married. I would also try to not have any pretence in your mind of how the day is going to be. Something is likely to go slightly adrift to how you imagine it, it is much easier to adapt than to worry about it, no one else knows how it should have looked only you, everyone else will love it anyway.
